Starting with explaining how i made a flipbook....
FLIPBOOK
|
When making my flip book, i thought of a simply idea using shapes and moulding them into different shapes throughout the book. Once i got my idea ready i begin to draw the shapes on each page starting with a rectangle and then rapidly changing into a circle, having the effect of the shapes bouncing of the edges of the paper. i drew 20 pictures (frames) to be able to make it as smooth as i could so that it wasn't jilted. After drawing the pictures i used a app on the iphone called 'stopmotion.' Using this app was difficult because it wasnt steady, my hands kept shaking and moving. Also when i had to turn the page i lost the position of the previous photo i had taken so the end result the photos were not in portion with each other. After taking the photos i uploaded them on the computer and changed the FPS to 5 FPS on photoshop as i wanted the effect of the shapes 'bouncing' off the wall so it looked like it moulded.

PHOTOSHOP/FLIPBOOK

With this walking man idea, to start it i drew on A4 piece of paper 8 man as if they were walking, i found this different because i didn't want it to jilt so i had to carefully drew them. After drawing them i had to take photos of them and upload them onto the mac and position them so that they were all the same size and length so it looked smoother and they were't different sizes. After position them i changed the FPS to 5 because i thought that that was the right speed for a walking man. When watching it back after uploading it i realised that i had not drawn the man that well and it looked like it was doing the moon walk and walking backwards.

Zoetrope
The pictures on the left shows the making of the zoetrope. You generally draw objects or stickman walking or moving, you also draw slits at the top of the paper because there are slits on the zoetrope so that when you place the paper in it and spin it you can look through the slits and see the movement. For my one i drew a man walking with 8 drawings, however you start with the 4 walking cycle which are contact, recoil, passing, and high point after this 4 i then just repeated them. Overall my one when placing in the zoetrope was smooth but the man looked like it was walking backwards. I think this is a good animation technique back in the day it was said to be fun nowadays however animation had developed and the zoetrope is of existents.

Stop motion animation on Dipity.
This is a timeline of history of animation from early example from now and key points of animation.
This is my first attempt on flash to try and make a animation myself using motion tween's. Starting with the head i made it on a website and uploaded it to photoshop i also did this for the body parts. I created the body parts by modifying and then converting them into symbols. This so that they move individually and also that it wont interfere with the rest of the body. With this technique i found it difficult because i found it very difficult to move the body parts frame by frame. However what made in easier was the motion tween because and to be able to move the body parts were a want. However if i was doing frame by frame then it take me much longer then moving body parts frame by frame.

The creator of Charlie and Lola was Lauren Child and developed also by Lauren Child and Kitty Taylor, the style used is a collage style of animation. 2D Celanimation, paper cutout, fabric design, real textures, photomontage, and achieve footage are all involved in the development of Charlie and Lola. These then are all animated in a software called CelAction. The content in this short children animation is about two siblings, a brother and sister who in which the older brother (Charlie) helps his sister (Lola) through the steps in life, and what to do and not what to do. My opinion on the FPS is about 15 because its detailed and smooth but because it is cut out there are limitation, for example with there heads, there heads dont move round the use there eyes instead. Another limitation is the detail of the hair it doesn't move at all but thats the feel of a cutout animation.

This animation is a cell animation. Tom and Jerry was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It is an animation that consist of a cat (Tom) chasing a mouse (Jerry). The FPS id say would be 24 because it very smooth good movement in all the characters. The target audience is aimed at children/teenagers who enjoy animation and who enjoy comedy. Also this particular show is played on children's tv shows so the majority of the audiences are children. A limitation could be that there are loads of cell animation around especially on TV and for kids so there is also competition around.

This animation was made in flash, it was made by Tim Burton. Its about superheroes. The FPS is about 15, the limitations are that there heads of the characters they stay in one place all the way through, they use they eyes to express the feelings and emotions. a advantage on this animation is that it uses a white background and the characters are in colour so they stand out and its easier to understand. Tim Burton is a weird and strange director so the target audience for this type of animation is teenagers who enjoy the super hero story lines and who is a fan of Tim Burton.

This animation is a flip book, it is inspired by the famous matrix footage. The fps is up to 30 - 120. Its limitations for this is that it is a flipbook so there is a limitation on the amount of pages you can draw on. Also the way you flick the book you can easily skip 2 or 3 pages by accident so it may take time to get it right. The audience for this animation is teenager boys who are interested ion the matrix and guns and shooting. Also the fact that it is a flipbook helps it to be different and it isn't done onto the computers.

This animation is 2D side scroll. It is a mario game made by nintendo. its fps id say was about 12 it is quite jumpy when they is movement but i suppose thats the whole point and it isn't a mistake. Mario is about completing levels and collecting coins and fighting monsters. The target audience is gamers who enjoy this type of animation, also people who like to play the animation too. People can connect to the animation too.

FEEDBACK ON FIRST DRAFT OF ANIMATION
Overall i think the project went well, i think things that went positively personally for me were that producing the idea and coming up with a unique storyline was fun and when asking people about my idea when i first thought of it was all positive comments. However overall the whole project i found difficult firstly to make and secondly to get the speed right, i produced it all on final cut because for me personally i found it easier to use. Also with cut out when producing it there are individual characters for my animation that i had to move and throughout making it it was difficult to make sure that it hasn't moved to much so that it it isn't smooth or they've have moved at of place.
If i were to do it again i would use a different technique first of all i wouldn't use final cut i would you use flash because seeing others there were better quality and it looked a little easier especially to make a animation. Secondly, instead of making my characters i would of got them from the internet and edited them in photoshop to how i would like the characters to look like because therefore they stand out more with colour and character.

When completing my final draft of my animation i sent out a questionnaire of what people thought of it. My target audience were males age 10+ because i wanted that stereotype of 'pig killing' that young men and men enjoy.
When receiving feedback i ask the question 'what did you like about my animation' and as you can see down below it was positive, they thought the drawings were good which i am pleased about because they re pretty basic. Also they found the soundtrack funny which i wanted the comedy to come from so i am pleased about that. They also enjoyed the characters which i was very pleased about because it is quite an unique animation because normally it maybe a butcher but i changed into a meat knife.
However i did receive feedback of what they didn't enjoy, had majority of it was that it was jumpy and the camera was shaky, which is understandable i totally agree that it is jumpy maybe because i took photos and placed it into final cut, also when takin the photos i didnt have a tripod so the photos change throughout. So i totally agree on what they didn't enjoy.

This is the feedback i got from my focus group, of what they liked and didn't like. i agree with majority of what they said. The issues they had was that they were was a little going on for such a short period of time, they said to spread it out a bit which i totally agree on, also the drawings which were said by this focus group to small and they don't stand out.
Compared to the questionnaire group it is difficult the focus group targeted on how to improve it but with the questionnaire group they were more complimentary comments. Which i suppose was great feedback because i got abit of both which is great when you know you have to improve something. With all feedback given i will adjust to those comments and improve my animation with the following feedback so that the end product can be what my audience want to see. |
When improving my animation i decided to go with the easy improvements that were said like spreading the writing and the images out also to turn the squealing noise the pig makes as by the feedback it was annoying and irritating. With changing the characters however because of the time limit i was unfortunately running out of time to drew another knife so i couldn't improve on that but hopefully what i have improved my audience will enjoy it more.
